(Principal Engineer/Associate Director)

They are urgently seeking a Principal Engineer/Associate Director to head their Structures Team in Birmingham, reporting to the Director in Charge. This position will suit an ambitious, motivated candidate who has a strong desire to achieve more. You will be actively encouraged to further develop your career through promotion in a dynamic and responsive management team. The Team undertakes a mix of highway, rail and other civil engineering works for both internal and external clients. The position carries full financial accountability for the Team, in terms of bidding and negotiating work, monitoring project profitability and balancing resources to maintain high chargeability. Prior experience with project costing and business/financial management would be of advantage. The Team Head will be specifically responsible for: - Business Development with both internal and external clients - Maintenance of Technical Standards - Managing and motivating the team - Enhancing morale through encouragement and appropriate training - Securing new customers and repeat business - A senior focal point for clients to resolve project issues - Implementation of IMS and Health and Safety Procedures.
The successful candidate will have a proven career in managing and building a team, with personal knowledge of the local highways and rail markets in the Midlands. You will have experience in design and build highways, working directly for contractors, and the common contract forms. You should hold corporate membership of appropriate professional bodies (Institution of Civil Engineers and Institution of Structural Engineers or similar). You will have at least 10 years post graduation experience and be a good communicator.
