Key Requirements: BEng in Civil Engineering, CEng or IEng is desirable but additional experience may be accepted in lieu
Experience:
A minimum of 6 years post-graduate relevant experience in the design and / or maintenance of bridge and / or building and general structures, plus a broad experience of civil engineering practice. Previous experience in the rail industry and knowledge of railways standards is desirable.
Primary Duties:
To undertake any work of a technical nature that falls within the Jobholder’s ability and competence. To work at any position within a project team to achieve the project objectives.
To supervise and check the work of junior staff .
When required, to undertake the roles of Project Manager, Activity Manager, Designer and Checker as defined in the Quality Manual and the competency appraisal processes. To delegate for the Principal Engineer when absent.
Preparation of engineering solutions, presentation of engineering options
Preparation, checking of feasibility studies, technical reports and other written documents.
Preparation / checking of design calculations, structural analysis
The inspection and assessment of structures
Surveying and condition monitoring / appraisal of structures
Production and checking of design concepts, drawings, specifications and other technical documents.
Management of teams of engineers and external suppliers including the supervision of sub-contractors
Direction and supervision of CAD technicians and suppliers.
Training and development / mentoring of staff within the Section.
Delivery of work to programme, budget and specification
Planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances
Client and third party liaison
Representing the company on technical matters.
Marketing and business development.
IT Skills:
The Jobholder should be computer literate and conversant with MS Office suite and experienced in the use of structural analysis software (SuperSTRESS, SCALE and Archie) and have knowledge of project management software (P3, Suretrack or MS Project). The Jobholder should also be familiar with production of drawings using AutoCAD. |
